How many CCTV cameras does a 3-bedroom house need?

Most 3-bedroom houses need 3 to 4 CCTV cameras. That typically covers the front door, driveway, back garden, and side access if there is one. The exact number depends on your property layout and which approach routes you want covered.

The goal is not to cover every square metre - it is to cover every way someone can approach or enter the property. This is how Doberman plans every system. A camera on the front covers the door and driveway. A camera on the rear covers the back garden and patio doors. If the property has a side gate or alley, a third or fourth camera covers that blind spot.

Corner-mounted cameras with a wide field of view can cover two sides of a property from a single position. This is why 3 cameras are often enough for a semi-detached house, while a detached house with access on all sides may need 4.

We plan camera positions during a free site survey. We walk the property, identify approach routes, check for blind spots, and recommend positions that give you full coverage without unnecessary cameras. More cameras is not always better - the right positions matter more than the total count.

A 3-camera system from Doberman starts at around £950 for hardware. A 4-camera system is slightly more. Installation is quoted after the survey based on cable routing and property layout.
