What security cameras are better than Ring?

Hardwired PoE camera systems are better than Ring in every measurable way - reliability, image quality, night vision, and total cost of ownership. They record locally with no subscription and no Wi-Fi dependency. Doberman installs these systems across Leicester using the UniFi Protect ecosystem.

Ring cameras depend on your Wi-Fi network and on Amazon's cloud servers. If your Wi-Fi drops, the camera stops recording. If you cancel the Ring Protect subscription, you lose cloud storage and can only view live - no playback. Over three to five years, that subscription adds up to more than many professional systems cost outright.

A hardwired PoE system records everything to a local NVR on your property. There is no subscription, no cloud dependency, and no footage limit. At Doberman, we install UniFi Protect cameras that deliver true 4K resolution with AI-powered person and vehicle detection - features Ring charges extra for or does not offer at all.

Ring cameras also run on batteries or low-voltage power, which limits resolution and frame rate. A PoE camera gets constant power and data through a single Ethernet cable, so it can record continuously at full quality without throttling to save battery.

Wi-Fi cameras like Ring are also vulnerable to signal jamming and deauthentication attacks. A wired camera has no wireless signal to disrupt. The only way to stop it recording is to physically cut the cable.

The trade-off is that a professional system requires installation - cables need to be run through your property. That is exactly what Doberman does. We handle the site survey, cabling, mounting, configuration, and app setup. Once it is in, you never think about batteries, Wi-Fi range, or subscription renewals again.
