What you get
Site survey
We visit your Loughborough property, walk every approach and boundary, check cable routing options through loft spaces and cavities, and assess lighting conditions - before recommending a single camera.
System design
Camera positions, lens selection, and recording capacity designed around your specific property - whether that’s a terraced student let on Storer Road or a detached family home in Nanpantan.
Professional installation
Cables routed through lofts, cavities, and existing conduit - not surface‑clipped across brickwork. Clean runs that last and don’t look like an afterthought.
Handover and training
Full walkthrough of live view, playback, app access, and basic troubleshooting. For landlord installs, we provide tenant‑facing documentation so new occupants know how to use the system.
How it works
Survey
We drive up from Leicester (about 25 minutes) and walk your property in detail. Expect around 45 minutes for a standard residential survey, longer for HMOs or commercial units.
Design
Camera positions, lens types, and NVR specification tailored to your layout. You receive a clear written proposal with a fixed price - no vague estimates.
Install
Clean cable routing, camera mounting, NVR setup, network configuration, and night commissioning. A typical three to four camera residential install completes in a single day.
Residential CCTV in Loughborough
Loughborough’s housing stock ranges from Victorian terraces close to the town centre to 1930s semis along Ashby Road and newer estates around Thorpe Acre and Garendon Park. Each type needs a different installation approach. The terraces on Storer Road and Frederick Street have narrow side returns - often less than a metre wide - and shared rear access alleys that are common entry points for break‑ins. These need covering without capturing a neighbour’s property. We position cameras to cover your boundaries specifically, typically using a 2.8mm wide‑angle lens on the rear and a tighter 4mm on the front to get identification‑quality footage at 5-8 metres from the doorstep.
Semi‑detached and detached properties in Shelthorpe, Nanpantan, and around the Outwoods typically have driveways, side gates, and larger rear gardens. These need wider coverage zones and usually three to four cameras to cover every approach. Cable routing in these properties is straightforward - 15-20 metre loft runs to soffit‑mounted cameras on the front and rear, with drops through first‑floor cavities for side‑facing positions. We design the layout so every entry point is captured, including the side gate that most DIY installs miss entirely. That side access is the approach route we see most often on Leicestershire Police crime reports for residential burglaries in this type of property.
New‑build developments off Epinal Way and around Thorpe Acre have their own considerations. Open‑plan front gardens and integrated garages mean the front camera needs to cover a wider area at closer range. We use varifocal lenses on these installs to handle the variable distances involved. Cable routing in newer properties is usually simpler, but partition walls and pre‑finished surfaces mean we plan routes carefully to avoid visible runs.
Student HMO installations
Loughborough is a university town, and a significant proportion of the housing around the campus - particularly along Storer Road, Ashby Road, Forest Road, and Radmoor Road - is let to students. CCTV in HMOs is a different job to a standard residential install. Landlords have specific obligations around recording in shared spaces, data retention, and informing tenants. We design HMO systems that cover external approaches and communal areas without recording private bedrooms or bathrooms, and we provide the signage and documentation you need to comply with GDPR and ICO guidance.
Student properties also need robust hardware. Cameras mounted at accessible heights get knocked, grabbed, or have things thrown at them - we’ve replaced cameras at HMOs on Radmoor Road that were pulled clean off the wall within weeks of installation because they were mounted at head height. We now mount external cameras at a minimum of 2.5 metres where possible and use IK10‑rated vandal‑resistant housings at any lower positions. The NVR is installed in a locked utility cupboard or landlord’s store rather than a communal area - this protects both the hardware and the recorded footage. A system needs to survive a full twelve‑month tenancy cycle without any intervention from the landlord.
For landlords managing multiple properties, we can standardise the system specification across your portfolio. Same camera model, same NVR, same app access - which makes remote management and any future maintenance straightforward. We also offer a handover pack for each property that incoming tenants receive at the start of their tenancy, explaining what’s recorded, where footage is stored, and who to contact.
Business and commercial CCTV in Loughborough
Loughborough town centre - Market Place, Baxter Gate, and the surrounding streets - has a mix of independent shops, cafes, and service businesses that benefit from properly installed CCTV. For dedicated commercial coverage, see our business CCTV installation page. We design commercial systems to cover entrances, till points, stock areas, and rear delivery access. For retail premises, camera placement matters: you need enough resolution at the till to identify faces, plus wide‑angle coverage of the shop floor. We achieve this by matching camera types to distances rather than relying on a single camera to do everything.
Loughborough’s industrial and business parks - including units around Charnwood campus, the A512 corridor, and Dishley - need perimeter coverage, loading bay monitoring, and often number plate capture at vehicle entrances. These are larger installs with longer cable runs, but the principle is the same: hardwired PoE cameras on a local NVR, designed to cover every approach. We use 4K resolution cameras with appropriate lenses to capture usable detail at the distances involved in car park and perimeter scenarios.
Why hardwired PoE cameras
Every camera we install uses Power over Ethernet - one Cat6 cable carries both power and video. Wi‑Fi cameras depend on signal strength that drops through walls and distance. In a terraced property on Storer Road, a rear‑mounted Wi‑Fi camera might be three walls and 15 metres from the router - that’s an unreliable connection even before the house is full of students streaming in the evening. We’ve been called to troubleshoot Wi‑Fi camera systems in Loughborough student lets where cameras were dropping offline for hours every evening during peak usage. PoE cameras run on a dedicated network between camera and NVR, completely independent of your broadband. That said, if you’re a homeowner with a small property and only need a single camera covering a front door, a decent Wi‑Fi doorbell camera can be a reasonable starting point - it’s when you need reliable multi‑camera coverage that hardwired becomes essential.
Local NVR recording means footage stays on‑site. No cloud uploads, no subscriptions, no third‑party access. For landlords, this is particularly important - you control the data, and you’re not paying per‑camera monthly fees across a portfolio of properties. For a detailed breakdown of how this affects cost, see our pricing guide.
Pricing
A typical 3-4 camera residential system starts from around £950 for hardware (cameras, NVR, drives, gateway), with installation on top. HMO and commercial installs vary depending on camera count and cable routing complexity. We provide a fixed quote after the site survey - no surprises.
Why Doberman
Hardwired PoE, not Wi‑Fi
Every camera runs on a dedicated Ethernet cable. No signal drops, no battery swaps, no competition with student broadband usage.
Local recording, no subscriptions
Footage records to your own NVR on‑site. No cloud fees, no third‑party data access. Landlords avoid per‑camera monthly costs across multiple properties.
HMO and landlord experience
We understand the specific requirements of student lets - robust mounting, tamper‑resistant housings, GDPR‑compliant signage, and tenant handover documentation.
Night commissioning as standard
We don’t leave until every camera performs after dark. IR coverage, streetlight glare, and headlight flare are tested and adjusted on‑site - not left for you to discover later.
About Doberman
Doberman is a Leicester‑based CCTV installation company. We design, install, and support hardwired PoE camera systems for homes, student lets, and businesses across Leicestershire - including regular work throughout Loughborough and the Charnwood area. We’ve installed systems across dozens of properties in Loughborough, from single‑camera front‑door setups to six‑camera HMO systems with landlord remote access. Every installation is carried out by our own team; we don’t subcontract.
We’re based in Leicester, about 25 minutes from Loughborough. We’re not going to pretend we have a Loughborough office - we don’t. But we work in the area regularly and know the local property types, from the terraced student streets near the university to the detached homes around Nanpantan and the commercial units along the A512. We also cover the surrounding villages including Shepshed and Quorn.
If you want to understand our approach before getting in touch, our CCTV blog covers everything from camera placement to system specs to what drives the cost of an installation. For a full overview of our services, visit our Doberman homepage. For a full list of towns and areas we work in, see our areas we cover.

We cover Loughborough town centre, Storer Road, Ashby Road, Shelthorpe, Thorpe Acre, Nanpantan, and the surrounding villages including Quorn, Mountsorrel, Barrow upon Soar, Sileby, Rothley, Woodhouse Eaves, and Birstall. If you’re elsewhere in Charnwood, ask - we almost certainly cover you.
Frequently asked questions
- Do you cover Loughborough?
- Yes. We’re based in Leicester, about 25 minutes away, and work in Loughborough regularly. We cover the town itself and surrounding villages including Quorn, Mountsorrel, Barrow upon Soar, Sileby, Rothley, and Woodhouse Eaves.
- Can you install CCTV in a student HMO?
- Yes, and we do it regularly in Loughborough. We design systems that cover external approaches and communal areas without recording private bedrooms or bathrooms. We supply GDPR‑compliant signage, a data processing rationale, and a tenant‑facing guide explaining what’s recorded and why. The NVR goes in a locked landlord cupboard, not a communal space.
- How many cameras does a typical Loughborough home need?
- Most homes need three to four cameras. A terraced property near the university typically needs two to three - front, rear, and side access if applicable - costing roughly £800-£1,200 installed. Detached homes in Nanpantan or Thorpe Acre usually need four to cover all approaches, typically £1,200-£1,600 installed. We confirm the exact number and provide a fixed quote during the site survey.
- Do I need to pay a monthly subscription?
- No. Footage records locally to an NVR at your property. There’s no cloud storage and no subscription. You own the hardware and the recordings. App access for remote viewing uses your existing broadband and is free.
- Will the installation damage my property’s brickwork?
- We route cables through loft spaces, wall cavities, and existing conduit wherever possible. External cable runs are a last resort, not the default. Camera brackets require a few fixing holes, but we avoid drilling into decorative or period features. On Victorian terraces, we use mounting positions that keep the installation clean and unobtrusive.
- I’m a landlord with multiple properties in Loughborough. Can you standardise across them?
- Yes. We can specify the same camera model, NVR, and configuration across your portfolio. This makes remote management via the app consistent and simplifies any future maintenance. We provide a tenant handover pack for each property.
